NCAA Football Final Ratings for 2008 PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 09 January 2009
Congrats to the Florida Gators on winning the BCS this year!  In the score-fest that was 2008, the BCS title game actually showcased two fairly good defenses doing their thing -- whoulda thunk it?  Also, special congratulations go out to Florida, as they finished the season above 400 points in my system, which is a first in a very long time (I think the last was 1971 Nebraska).  For a team with one loss on the season, this is truly exemplary.

Congrats also go out to all of the top teams this season.  While Florida did shine above the rest, I think the level of play this season was sufficient enough to open that Pandora's box once again to really get playoff considerations going.  There's just too many teams that were playing at a very high level this season, including 4 that ended above the 350 point line (which usually earns you a #1 rating in my system).  Playoffs would have been amazing, in my not-so humble opinion.

Thanks to all and see you next season!

NCAA Football Bowl Game Prediction Results PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 09 January 2009
Holy cow!  What a bowl season!  And so unpredictable -- 50% of games were upsets?  I'm not sure that's ever happened before, even during the regular season.  Anyway, hope you've enjoyed the season as much as I have (although I do wish that Ohio State would have done better -- oh well, next year).  See you next year!

NCAA Football Bowl Predictions for 2008 PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 10 December 2008
It's finally bowl season for college football, and kudos to the BCS committee for getting it right.  That being said, this season provides ample evidence for the need for a playoff, as any of the top 8 teams are legitimate contenders this season.

The game of the Bowl week is obvious -- the BCS Title game between Florida and Oklahoma.  This is going to be one heck of a game between these two offensive juggernauts.  The question is -- can Oklahoma find some defense during their prep time this month?  Florida already has a good defense, and it showed vs. Alabama.

For what it's worth, I'm off to see my first bowl game ever up in Toronto at the International Bowl between Buffalo and Connecticut.  I'm still in disbelief and glee over the Bulls victory against previously unbeaten Ball State, and this bowl game -- their first ever as a program -- is well deserved.  As for the game, despite UB's history, I expect a very close game between these two programs.  We'll see!

Cheers, happy holidays, and enjoy the bowl games!

NCAA Football Conference Trends as of 12/7/08 PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 07 December 2008
No change to the final regular season conference ratings, as the ACC stays on top of the heap, again without a team in the Top 10.  The evidence of their parity was on display yesterday, as unranked Virginia Tech was able to knock off #18 Boston College in a one-sided match.  Aside from that, no one really moved in any discernable or unexpected direction.  We'll see if this plays out for bowl season.

We've made it to the end of the regular season folks!  And the top two teams are.....

Florida and Oklahoma.  Ok, this should come as any surprise for those of you that are following the game, although there is still a slight chance that Texas makes the BCS championship game, despite these two teams being at the top of a very crowded heap of contenders.  If there were ever a case for a Div I-A playoff, this is it.

Hope you enjoyed the regular season as much as I did, and the final ratings will be released on 1/9/2009.  Enjoy the holidays!
