| NCAA Football Preseason Ratings for 2008 |

Welcome back everyone. Hope you enjoyed the offseason, are getting the yard looking great, having fun grilling brats, steaks, or whatever, and having fun this summer. I've been busy with all of the above, plus I've just finished running the numbers on the 2008 College Football preseason ratings. And your new #1 this preseason is.... Missouri! After the BCS snub last season, the Tigers come back roaring and ready to take their shot at college football supremacy. QB Chase Daniel is a stud and the team is loaded. A favorable schedule never hurts either, and Pinkel is well established in Columbia. All this adds up to a #1 rating for the preseason. Right behind them are what seem to be the perennial #2 -- The Ohio State Buckeyes. Like Mizzou, Ohio State is loaded this season and also has a somewhat favorable schedule, although the early trip to Los Angeles to take on USC is going to be a formidable challenge. RB Chris "Beanie" Wells is one of the top rushers in the country and is coming in healthy for perhaps the first time in his collegiate career. Despite that, he still ran for a net yardage of 1607 yds, which was second in the Big10 only to Illinois' Rashard Mendenhall, who was the 1st round draft selection of the Pittsburgh Steelers. ILB James Laurinaitis set to repeat All-American status and add to the trophy collection at the end of the season as well. All in all, yet another title run is in the cards for the Buckeyes. Georgia comes in at #3, which is slightly down from their final season #1 rating in my system from last year, but don't think that Richt's boys have slacked off any -- they're gunning for the SEC crown down in Athens. QB Matthew Stafford and RB Knowshon Moreno return for the Bulldogs offense, as do a slew of stacked defenders including MLB Dannell Ellerbe and moster DT Geno Atkins. Those two guys racked up a combined total of 12 sacks last season, making them the scourge of the SEC's pass rushers. On a serious note, let me offer my condolences to Georgia fans on the loss of your mascot, Uga VI. RIP Damn Good Dog. Rounding out the top 5 are #4 Kansas and #5 Virginia Tech. I have to admit that I was a bit surprised when I started devouring the college football rags for info on the teams this year, but seeing as how both teams ended strong (albeit Kansas a bit stronger than VT), both return a fair amount of their starters and skills players, and both are led by veteran coaches who are well entrenched in their programs, I can't see a reason to knock them down yet. I am a bit concerned by the late season lineup for the Jayhawks, but time will tell. VT has an easier road, although their away games is brutal -- UNC, Nebraska, BC, FSU, and Miami. Ouch.
