Here's the new ratings for this week. Perhaps most surprising to some is that LSU did not drop from the #1 spot following their loss to Kentucky. However, this should not be that much of a surprise, as they were far ahead of everyone else prior to this weekend, and a road game at Kentucky is still a big game against a very good opponent. I would not be at all surprised to see many of the other computer ratings follow suit. The second most surprising thing is that Ohio State is not ranked #1, or even #2 or #3, but in fact slides to #4. Again, this ought not to be a shock either once you analyze the data and realize that they have yet to face a truly good quality opponent. In fact, only Kansas and Hawai'i have worse strengths of schedule among the undefeated. However, that ought to change starting this week, as each of OSU's remaining 5 opponents have identical 5-2 records and an average rating of about 188. Whether they can stay undefeated through that stretch is another matter entirely. Big moves up this week include Auburn, Kentucky, Kansas State, and (lo and behold) Michigan, whose first game blunder against Appalachian State no longer seems out of place in this crazy season of major upsets. Falling down are LSU (point-wise, at least), Cal, Missouri, Cincinnati, Illinois, Florida State....ugh, why even bother listing them at this point.
