Another round of upsets fuels this week's turmoil within the system. LSU should now be an undisputed #1 across the country, and is on the verge of breaking 400 points in my system, which is a very rare occurance. After that, it's anyone's guess. My system has Ohio State coming in at #2, with very little movement in the Top 5 otherwise, which means it's showing some early season efficiency -- a very good sign. Following that though, it's a mess. Congrats to Missouri, Cincy, Illinois, Kansas, VT, Colorado, and Tennessee on big wins and subsequent big moves up the charts. Cincinnati in particular has intrigued me, as my system picked up on them very early on in the season, while my personal feelings kept me as a non-believer. However, I'm beginning to think that the Bearcats have a legitimate shot at surprising the nation over the next couple months. Falling down are USC of course, but surprisingly down to #19, which is probably an overreaction on my system's part, but could be indicative of bigger issues with Coach Carroll's team. Time will tell there. Also dropping this week are Kentucky, Georgia, Wisconsin, and UCLA. Tough night for college football fans in Los Angeles. Florida, despite the loss, doesn't move at all, and in fact gains points due to almost going the distance @ LSU. Given all the upsets that keep happening, I'm beginning to wonder if there is still a chance for Florida to play in the BCS title game. A 2-loss team has never qualified before, and I think you even have to go back 40 years or so to even find a team with 2 losses playing for a title. However, what if it works out that way? And more importantly, what if a 2-loss team beats a previously undefeated team in the BCS title game? Who's #1? Despite the "one-game playoff" notion, the computers may actually give the #1 to the BCS loser, which would cause all kinds of problems for the BCS. What if (*gasp*) a 3-loss team makes it and wins? What if both teams have 2 or more losses? There would be so many cases made for which of the likely many 2-loss teams should go, that it could unravel the BCS itself. Something tells me that the BCS guys never envisioned scenarios like these, but this is a year that anything seems to be possible. Time will tell...
