It's Rivalry Week Part I!!!

Game of the week:   Michigan vs. Ohio State.  Yes, this one has lost some luster after both teams lost this past weekend, but it's still the biggest rivalry in all of college football, and as in years past, the winner gets a trip to the Rose Bowl.  Not a bad consolation prize for each having dropped a couple of boneheaded games last Saturday.

Also worth watching:  Cincinnati vs. West Virginia, Georgia vs. Kentucky, Texas Tech vs. Oklahoma, Clemson vs. Boston College.

Rivalry games:  Obviously OSU-Michigan, Boise State vs. Idaho, Illinois vs. Northwestern, Minnesota vs. Wisconsin, Tennesse vs. Vanderbilt, Indiana vs. Purdue.

The ratings are beginning to solidfy even further this week, although upsets continue to add some chaos into the mix.  Moving up this week are Cincinnati, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Mississippi State, while Ohio State, Auburn, Michigan, Boston, College and Alabama fall down.

Another round of high-ranked teams getting upset this week, none more surprising than Ohio State falling at home to unranked Illinois.  Overall, the system fared below average due to large part to the number of upsets as well as the play of teams who either over or under performed compared to their play so far this season.  Next week is rivalry week and should be a heck of a week.

Game of the week:   Georgia vs. Auburn.  Georgia needs this game to stay alive in the jumbled up SEC-East, while an Auburn win keeps them mathematically alive for the SEC-West crown, although it's nearly a lock for LSU at the moment.  Nevertheless, this should be a good game, and is the only matchup of two ranked teams this week.

Also worth watching:  Ohio State vs. Illinois, Virginia Tech vs. Florida State, Oklahoma State vs. Kansas, Missouri vs. Texas A&M, Cincinnati vs. Connecticut, South Carolina vs. Florida, and California vs. USC.

Oregon takes care of business at home, knocking off another formerly unbeaten team in Arizona State, and moving up to #2 in the Comprank ratings for this week.  Ohio State is finally getting some respect here, although I wonder whether it would be enough to ever overtake LSU and Oregon at this point.  Oklahoma comes roaring back into the Top5 as well, but same problem there.

Missouri, Virginia Tech, Texas, Penn State, Florida State, and Cincinnati all make big moves up this week as well, while Boston College and South Florida get knocked down a few rungs.  Not really sure what's happened to USF since the first half of the season -- are they tired?  Did they get lucky?  Hard to say.
