Major movement in the Comprank NCAA college football rankings today, as there were many high-ranked teams that were upset this weekend. As expected, LSU and USC remain #1 and #2, respectively, although both had to fend off their opponents before finally claiming victory. Moving up significantly are South Florida to #3 (!), Cal to #4, Arizona State to #5, Auburn to #8, Florida State to #15, UCLA to #16, and Illinois, Kansas State, Colorado, and BYU to spots #22-25, respectively. All of these are major moves due to big upsets and/or great play by these teams. Falling down today are West Viriginia, Oregon, Florida, Oklahoma, and Texas -- all victims of big upsets this weekend. Also on the down-low are Penn State, who seem to have a prolonged case of Michigan-itis, or perhaps the Illini are that good. And of course, what would a wrap-up be without mentioning Notre Dame, who managed to lose their 5th out of 5 games so far this season, this time @ Purdue by 33-19. That being said, the Irish did cover the spread and were able to move up to #106. Despite expected losses for the next 3 weeks, they may even rise further due to a ridiculous schedule of @ #16 UCLA, and home games against #14 Boston College and #2 USC. Good luck Jimmy Clausen -- hope you make it through alive. |

WOW! Upset Saturday! Oklahoma, Florida, West Virginia, Texas, and Oregon all go down today! Holy cow! I don't recall the last time a shake-up like this has happened -- maybe 2003 or last two weeks of 1996? Unbelieveable! Overall, I fared a bit less than solvent for games against the spread, but did fairly well straight up, especially considering all the upsets today. In any case, it was far better than last week, so I'm feeling better about the system, if not quite "happy" about the returns. |

LSU and USC remain on top once again, and Oklahoma shoots right back up to #3, following their blasting of Tulsa on Friday night. Ohio State moves up to #5, while Cincinnati gets re-normalized back down to #19, which seems to be about right for them. Making re-entrances in the Top 25 are Georgia and Arizona State, while falling down are Alabama, Arkansas, and Louisville. Finally, the carnage continues in South Bend, as Notre Dame continues to explore uncharted territory, falling to #108 in this week's ratings. What's worse for them is that the next four games are progressively harder, as they play at #34 Purdue followed by a trip to #25 UCLA, then return home to receive beatings vs. #8 Boston College and #2 USC. Unless things turn around quickly, the Irish are going to go 0-8, and could even go 0-10 if #75 Navy and #52 Air Force can pull off W's. At least #103 Duke looms on 11/17. Oh man..... |

Brutal week for my predictions. I'm not sure why it had such a bad week, but the beginning of conference play, with its heightened emotions may have something to do with it. Either way, pretty ugly results -- hope for better next week. |

LSU and USC remain #1 and #2, respectively with their wins against MTSU and Nebraska, while Boston College, Cincinnati, Oregon, Florida, and Ohio State all make appearances in the Top 10 with their victories on the day. Kentucky moves up to #13 with their upset victory over Louisville, and Alabama moves up to #16 by holding off a late push by Arkansas to win in Tuscaloosa. Rounding out the big moves into the Top 25 is Air Force, who moves up 35 places with their 20-17 upset of TCU. Notable moves outside of the Top25 are a pair of MSU's, with both Michigan State and Mississippi State moving up significantly with today's wins. Utah rockets up 36 places following their thrashing of UCLA. Finally, the Dookies almost get into double-digit ratings by moving to #100 following their win over Northwestern, their first return the W column in 23 tries. Falling off the cliff this week are UCLA, Auburn, BYU, Arizona, Iowa, and Northwestern following each's upset losses, however none come close to the utter self-implosion underway at Notre Dame. What a sad state of affairs in South Bend. Also dropping due to wins over weak opponents are Rutgers, South Carolina, and Miami (FL), although it'll be a while before the Canes are ranked high enough to be newsworthy again. Without further ado, here's the ratings. |
